About me

My name is Emma Rushforth.  I am an accredited Play Therapist and a Certified Play and Creative Arts Counsellor for Children and Young People (CPCA Counsellor CYP).

I am based in Medway, Kent, England.

I have a BA(Hons), and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE).  I have taught in KS1, KS2 and KS3.   

 

I am a full member of Play Therapy UK, fully insured and hold a current DBS check. I adhere to the strict guidelines of PTUK for ethical practice and clinical governance. I follow Child Protection Procedures and receive regular clinical supervision for my work. Each year I maintain my skills and practice with regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

 

I've completed the clinical hours with children within a variety of different placements necessary to meet the needs of the Play Therapy training. I have experience with dealing with issues of anxiety, loss, bereavement, attachment, separation and divorce, ADHD, Autism, Aspergers' Syndrome, domestic violence, transgender, self-esteem, social, emotional, mental health and behavioural needs.

Safety Considerations

All of the following is in place:

  • Current enhanced DBS/CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check.

  • Regular clinical supervision in line with PTUK regulations.

  • Sessions are conducted in a safe environment.

  • Work is within an ethical framework.

  • Current Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance.

  • Attendance at regular professional training to keep up-to-date and enhance practice.

  • Registered as an accredited Play Therapist and a certified CPCA Counsellor of Children and Young People on the register of Play and Creative Arts Therapists accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) which is managed by PTUK.  This demonstrates commitment to high professional standards, to enhancing safety and delivering a better service.

Location of the sessions:

 

Sessions take place at a mutually agreeable venue, normally your child or young person's school/education facility. An uninterrupted room is needed for the sessions which usually last 40 minutes per week.

 

I provide the play and creative materials unless other arrangements have been agreed.
